Renuvion/J-Plasma in Toronto
Renuvion, also known as J-Plasma, is an energy-assisted surgical technology that Dr. Elahi uses to improve skin contraction in appropriately selected patients. It is commonly used as an adjunct to liposuction and body-contouring surgery when the skin has mild to moderate laxity.

- Patients whose skin quality makes a meaningful contraction response possible
What patients need to understand
Renuvion is not a substitute for skin-removal surgery when laxity is substantial. The degree of contraction varies between patients and cannot be guaranteed. Some patients will obtain a more reliable result from an abdominoplasty, arm lift, thigh lift or another excisional procedure.
Assessment and planning
Dr. Elahi assesses skin thickness, elasticity, the degree of laxity, prior surgery and the proposed treatment area. He will explain whether Renuvion is expected to add a useful benefit, whether it will be combined with liposuction and whether a different operation would produce a more dependable result.
Recovery
Swelling, bruising, firmness and temporary numbness can follow treatment. A compression garment may be recommended. Skin contraction develops gradually, and the final contour cannot be judged during the early postoperative period.

Risks and limitations
Potential risks include:
- Bleeding, hematoma or seroma
- Infection
- Anaesthetic complications
- Poor wound healing or unfavourable scarring
- Asymmetry, contour irregularity or persistent loose skin
- Altered sensation, numbness or nerve injury
- Persistent pain, swelling or firmness
- Thermal injury or burns
- Gas accumulation beneath the skin or in body spaces
- Skin injury or necrosis
- Damage to deeper structures
- Blood clots and cardiopulmonary complications
- An unsatisfactory result or need for revision surgery
- Need for urgent treatment of a device-related complication
