Revision Rhinoplasty in Toronto
Revision rhinoplasty addresses persistent or new concerns after previous nasal surgery. Scar tissue, removed cartilage and altered blood supply make it more reconstructive and less predictable than a first operation.
What this procedure may address
- Residual deviation or contour irregularity
- A pinched, asymmetric or unsupported tip
- Excessive bridge reduction
- Nostril asymmetry
- Scar-related distortion
- New or worsened breathing difficulty
- Valve collapse or loss of structural support
What patients need to understand
A second operation cannot erase the first. The goal is a defensible improvement within the limits of the present anatomy. In some patients the most responsible recommendation is observation or no further surgery.
Assessment and planning
Operative reports and original photographs are useful. Assessment considers skin thickness, scar behaviour, remaining cartilage, valve function and donor cartilage. Septal cartilage may be limited; ear or rib cartilage may be considered when reconstruction requires it.
Recovery
Most cases should not be revised until healing and scar maturation permit reliable assessment, commonly at least 12 months and sometimes longer. Swelling after revision can persist 18 months or more.

Risks
The proposed benefits must be weighed against risks that include:
- Bleeding or hematoma
- Infection
- Anaesthetic complications
- Poor wound healing or unfavourable scarring
- Asymmetry or contour irregularity
- Altered sensation or numbness
- Persistent pain or swelling
- An unsatisfactory result or need for revision surgery
- Injury to nearby nerves, vessels or deeper structures
- Skin or soft-tissue injury
- Persistent or worsened obstruction
- Septal perforation
- Donor-site complications
- Graft warping, visibility, movement or resorption
