What is Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation increases breast volume using implants. Implant size, shape and position must be selected in relation to the patient’s chest width, tissue coverage, asymmetry and long-term tolerance for revision surgery.
What this procedure may address
- Small breast volume
- Volume loss after pregnancy or weight change
- Selected asymmetry
- Restoration of volume combined with a breast lift
What patients need to understand
Breast implants are not lifetime devices. Future imaging, implant replacement or removal may be required even when the early result is satisfactory.
Assessment and planning
Planning includes implant fill and profile, pocket position, incision, existing breast shape, skin quality, nipple position and whether a lift is also required. Larger implants impose greater weight on the tissues and are not automatically a better choice.
Recovery
Chest tightness, swelling and temporary changes in sensation are expected. Support garments and activity restrictions are individualized. Implant position and breast shape evolve over several months.
Individual postoperative instructions take priority over general timelines published online.
Risks and limitations
The proposed benefits must be weighed against risks that include:
- Bleeding or hematoma
- Infection
- Anaesthetic complications
- Poor wound healing or unfavourable scarring
- Asymmetry or contour irregularity
- Altered sensation or numbness
- Persistent pain or swelling
- An unsatisfactory result or need for revision surgery
- Changes in nipple or breast sensation
- Breast asymmetry
- Fat necrosis or delayed wound healing
- Capsular contracture
- Implant rupture, leakage, movement, malposition or visibility
- Rippling or palpability
- Future implant monitoring and additional surgery
- Breast implant-associated malignancies and systemic symptoms attributed by some patients to implants
This list is not exhaustive. The risks relevant to the proposed treatment are discussed during consultation and again before informed consent.

Risks and Side Effects
While breast augmentation with Dr. Elahi offers significant benefits, patients should be aware of potential risks and consequences, including swelling, bruising, pain, and temporary changes in nipple or breast sensation. More serious complications, such as infection, implant rupture, capsular contracture (scar tissue formation around the implant), or asymmetry, are rare but possible. Adhering to post-operative care instructions and attending follow-up appointments can help minimize these risks.
Duration of Results
The results of breast augmentation are typically long-lasting, with implants often lasting 10 to 20 years or more. Regular monitoring and possible future surgeries may be necessary to maintain the desired appearance and address any potential complications.

Recovery After Breast Augmentation
The recovery time for breast augmentation generally follows this timeline:
Initial Days Post-Surgery:
Patients can expect some pain, swelling, and bruising, which can be managed with prescribed pain medications. It is essential to rest and avoid any strenuous activities. Most patients are advised to take at least a few days off work.
First Week:
Swelling and discomfort should start to decrease. Patients are typically able to return to light activities and may resume desk jobs, but should avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise.
Weeks 2-4:
Swelling continues to diminish, and most patients feel more comfortable. Light exercise may be resumed, but high-impact activities and heavy lifting should still be avoided.
4-6 WEEKS:
Patients can usually return to more strenuous activities and exercise routines. Swelling should be mostly resolved, and the breasts will begin to settle into their final position.
6-12 WEEKS:
Full recovery is typically achieved. The final results become more apparent as the implants settle and any remaining swelling resolves. Patients should continue to follow any specific post-operative care instructions from Dr. Elahi.
Following our clinic's detailed post-operative care instructions and attending follow-up appointments are crucial for a smooth recovery and optimal results. Each patient’s recovery experience may vary, so it's important to communicate any concerns with our team.
